How to Write Multiple Articles in One Day: Tips for Freelance Writers

Writing for Money Can Be Mentally Draining at Times

Are you a web content writer who wants to make more money writing online? As you know, working as a freelance writer offers a certain amount of flexibility that traditional jobs lack; however, it can be frustrating, tiring, and downright tedious at times. Especially on the days you're suffering from writer's block or just plain don't feel like writing.

So how can you stay motivated to write multiple articles in one day, especially when your income depends on it? Some writers create articles and stories for fun and personal fulfillment; however, you probably aren't one of them if you're reading this article. If you enjoy writing for money, follow the tips below to stay motivated.

Keep Notebooks and Pens in Each Room

You never know when creativity will strike, so be prepared. It's a good idea for freelance writers to keep notebooks in their car, purse, or backpack. There's nothing worse than trying to jot down your brilliant ideas with a pen that is out of ink, so keep several near each notebook.

View Every Mundane Task as a Potential Article

Maybe you think that everybody already knows how to remove rust from their kitchen sink or bake lasagna. They don't. Set aside at least one day a week to write down each and every single thing that you do; you should end up with at least 5 quality article ideas.

Set Attainable Goals

How many articles can you easily write per day? Be honest with yourself.

Just because you regularly read posts in forums from freelance writers who write 10 or 20 articles per day doesn't mean that you can achieve the same goals. Maybe you have small children running around or an elderly parent to care for. Maybe your neighbors blast music all day and let their dog bark loudly outside of your window. Maybe you just can't mentally handle writing 10 articles per day.

That's okay. Figure out what you can handle and set a goal for yourself. A goal of 2 articles per day is still better than a goal of 0.

Just don't set your goals too high. You want to be an achiever, not an overachiever. If you set goals that are unattainable (or that you kill yourself to reach), you'll end up feeling depressed and angry- and your writing will suffer. Don't do that to yourself.

Decide How Much Time You Want to Spend Writing Articles Each Day

When you're a writer, it's easy to let writing consume your life. Set time limits for yourself, and stick to them. Whether you write for 30 minute blocks of time or decide upon 8 hours a day, put yourself on some sort of a schedule. Writing for the internet is a job; treat it as one. Make sure to take frequent breaks.

Keep Up With Current Events- And the Kardashians

If your articles are outdated and boring, your target audience will be as well.  I don't know many boring people, so your page views will suffer.  If your income as a writer is largely dependent on earnings from Google Adsense or Amazon, you cannot allow your page views to drastically drop.

Utilize Social Networking Sites

Facebook can be a great way to waste your day, but it can also be a goldmine for web content writers.  Did Susie break up with Johnny...again?  Write an article on failed relationships.  Did Jamie post an interesting tweet about the increasing crime rate for your city?  That could make an excellent article.  Are you sick of seeing your 13 year old cousin post bikini pics on Myspace?  Other people are probably experiencing the same thing; get your pen and paper ready.  Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace can be a writer's best friend.

Get Out of the House

Freelance writing is not limited to your bedroom or home office, even if you don't have a laptop.  Grab a notebook (whether it's the old fashioned kind filled with paper, or your mini computer) and head to the park, a coffee shop, or any other place that strikes your interest.  Sometimes a change in environment can help destroy writer's block.

Take a Break

Watch TV, listen to music, or dance around your bedroom.  You're allowed to do things other than write articles all day.  Demand Studios, HubPages, or Constant Content will still be there when you return.  I promise.

Don't Force Yourself

Your life won't end if you only write 1 (or zero) articles today.  Tomorrow's a new day.

Final Thoughts

Remember, there's only one person who can make sure that you are a successful freelance writer: YOU.  If the tips above don't help, don't give up.  You'll figure out a way to make your writing career work for you.
